Paper Box Follow Up

How did this project change your thinking about engineering?

On the second box, how was it beneficial to look at the other designs to improve your design?

Is this an assignment that should be included in the Intro to Engineering Classes in the future? Why/Why not?

1. This project did nothing than confirm my thoughts that pillars are the most structurally sound object. So no, it didn't change my view on engineering.
2. On our second box we got jipped becuase we tried to experiment with new ideas and tried to actually act like an engineer. And instead of being rewarded for thinking like an engineer, we were punished with a poor grade...sorry we tried new things that no one else did mr. allison. This is bull crap.
3. Yes it should but trying new things other than just copying other peoples boxes should be encouraged instead of students being punished for being original. We already proved that we could make a good box (230 lbs) and then for trying new things we got punished. This project is good but the way you are graded is absolutely rediculous. You need to apoligize.

This project didn't really change my view or interest in engineering. I enjoyed it and like trying to reach a goal with limited resources.
On the second box, it was beneficial to look at the boxes, in order to find another design that held the same amount as our last box. Most of the designs revolved around pillars.
Yes, this should be a future project for other classes, it's easy to start with.

it proved how distrubuting weight through pillars is he strongest method of the box holding up. we did not try anything new on our second box

1.This project made me realize that engineering takes a lot of thinking and working together to bounce off ideas to make the best product. I realize that I like engineering the same if not more because the thrill of having a successful product is worth the work.

3. This project is a very good project and should be used in the future classes. It teaches the effort and thought process of designing and making an object. However the grading system is completely wrong and sets successful students up to fail after already making an amazing box (230 lbs). After this is changed and a formal apoligy given the project will be accepted as great.

How this project changed my thinking about engineering is that it made me think what was the best design to build a project with a limited amount.

How it was beneficial to look at other designs is that it allowed you to see what the people used for their box to work. Meaning the best design.

Yes this assignment should be included in the future because it makes you think what is the best design to finish a job with a limited amount of supplies, and that is what real life engineering is like.

This project realyl didnt change my thinking of engineering. It just showed how the process works. Given a problem and work to find a solution with the constrictions. It was beneficial to see the designs that worked n the designs that didnt work, so you could improve on them and make them better, with less paper. YES becuase it is a fun entertaining project, that can be used to show the engineering process in a fun way.

1. After this project, the only thing i learned was that pillars are the most structurally stong objects and the easiest to make out of paper. I wouldn't say that this project changed my view on engineering because i already knew that

3. I agree with nick and jonathan that the garading process couild've been better. I don't think that an apology is necessary but some kind of compensation would be appreciated.

1. This project did change my thoughts on engineering because it made me realize that by altering your design and simply rethinking it properly you can create a better structure. This is one of the integral ideas of engineering.
2. Yes, by viewing other boxes we were able to come up with a better design, which caused us to succeed.
3. Copying is good in some ways, but you should also try to be as orginal as possible in your designs.

This changed my view on Engineering because it showed me an example of how engineers use the processof trial and error on a project

It was beneficial to see the ideas of other people, because it allowed us to merge our ideas together and create a better structure

This should be used in the future because it gives us a good idea on the process of creating a structure

1. It allowed us to see what shape is the strongest for designing structural projects. We tested different shapes/forms to see which was the more effective.

2. It wasnt that helpful because we O/L on the first one but it was good to see what other designed worked and which ones didnt.

3. Yes because it allows basic thinking about engineering and what they do on a daily basis.

I've had the same idea about engineering the whole time, that you make things that can better the society in which you live. For our second design we choose to repeat the desogn as some of the boxes and add our twist to it. I think this project should be included because it shows how to solve a problem using the design process.

1.) This first project didn't cahnge our thinking about engineering very much, except for the idea that modifying your designs can be a good thing.
2.) It was beneficial to look at the other boxes becase we got to see how some of the other boxes were made, and how structurally sound they were. And becasue we got to see the other boxes, our new design reached over load (Yay QB2!).
3.)We think this assignment is a good introduction because it helps us and other classes think about what is being made.

In box 1, me and koby did great using papers to hold with tape and glue.

In box 2, me and koby did good but not bad and it helped using glue to hold paper together. It helped to used pillers.

yes, because it's kind of cool to try some cool some and my favorite part of interdution to engineering is paper box.
