Mr. Wertz's presentation didn't really change my perceptions of engineering as a career -- this class has already changed those perceptions. But his presentation did make me think a little more about possibly pursuing engineering as a career.
He changed our perspective in a few ways. It showed us engineering is not just done in a cubicle, but all around the world in the field. Also, engineering deals with alot more than just buildings, it includes many different softwares and lasers and such.
Mr. Wertz did change our perception of engineering by making it seem more interesting and how all the different kinds of engineers work together on a project. We also liked the pictures he showed of different countries and some of the experiences he has had are really cool.
I really liked how Mr. Mertz explained that he t5raveled the world in his job. Also that there are a lot of different jobs and careers within the broad topic of engineering. It showed me that you can have a job that you love and still do awesome things like travel the world.
Mr. Mertz was a very interesting speaker and taught me a lot about radar engineering. Mr. Mertz talked a lot about what kind of engineering he did and how he actually uses math and certain formulas to find the distance and velocity of certain objects such as airplanes or missles. I liked how I got to know what he actually did and how the things that we learn in math and physics today will apply to a job as an engineer. However, we did get off topic and start talking about his travels and other things that were not engineering related. Overall he was a very influental speaker that taught me a lot about the career of engineering.
I learned alot about radar engineering from Mr. Mertz. I learned that you travel a lot and its not all work, but you actually enjoy your trip. I learned that theres a lot of work and history in radars and that they have come a long way from where they were before. I liked hearing about his stories of his time spent in turkey and taiwan. Im interested to learn more about rader engineering
I didn't know that his field of engineering exsists, it was fun to learn about radar and all the problems he faced. Also going to all those countries would be fun and being around all of those diverse cultures and foods. This made me interested in this type of engineering and excited to learn more about it. It is amazing how there are so many types of engineering and they are all so different.
The presentation given by Mr. Wertz showed that there are many types of enginering application to all sorts of things. It is not just building bridges or trying to make a building stronger. The application of Radar and other detection systems showing that they are not just one dementional in nature was interesting. As well as the different place he was able to travel to instal the systems that he worked to create.
His presentation really changed my thoughts on being an engineer. The part that left an impact on me was when he told about where he went for his jobs. I think that the traveling would be the best part of the job.
Mr. Wertz had a wonderful presentaion on his experiences as an engineer, and what he does. I really enjoyed the pictures and prepared powerpoint he created for the presentation. It was also very interesting hearing about all the cool places he has been, how a radar works, and his early childhood engineering memories. It didn't really change my perception as an engineer but did further inform me on what engineers do on a daily basis and their expierences. If any perceptions he changed it was that engineer does take a lot of work but the rewards are huge.
I thought it was really interesting that he got to travel the world in his field. I didn’t realize that this was an opportunity. It makes the field of engineering more appealing. I also thought it was cool that he works specifically with radar.
Mr. Wertz was the man. He made me more interested in engineering. He gave us good info on what engineers do everyday. It was very interesting and helpful.
I enjoyed Mr. Wertz's speech about his job as a radar engineer. I learned about a new type of engineering that I didn't know of before. It was very interesting to see where he gets to travel and spend his time working for his company.
I thought hearing Mr Mertz speak was very helpful in helping me deicde what I want to do. It helped me realize all the different paths each seperate engineering degree can offer. Also it was interesing to hear all the traveling opportunities that his field offered. He also exlpained that he has several social opportunities on a day to day basis and an engineer does much more than the common person thinks.
I think his presentation really highlighted the more glamorous side of engineering and how all the hard work early in careers in engineering can really pay off in both the financial aspect and the intelligence and experience aspect of thier careers. While the last speaker we had focused on actually promoting engineering and really tired to persuade us by actaully telling us that we need more engineers in the world, i think he accomplished the samegoal by not actually telling us, but instead more of showing us how cool being an engineer can be. So i think he changed my thoughts about engineering about how glamorious it could be if you work hard in school and outside of school early in your life.
Mr. Mertz was a very interesting speaker. I've never seen a radar engineer before, and he provided a lot of insight into all the different kinds of things engineers do, not necessarily just working in an office. He strengthened what the other speaker said about how engineers travel a lot; his job seems so exciting with the prospect of traveling all around the world and experiencing so many things. He showed me how engineers aren't necessarily all just in one area or field, but could be working and combining fields for the job. Mr. Mertz seemed incredibly smart, and his accomplishments amazed me, even if I'm not that much interested in radar.
Mr. Mertz was a pretty interesting man. He basically changed my entire perspecive on engineering, showing us that an engineer can travel around the world and interact with a lot of different people. He also showed us that engineering can be a wide range of things, wider than we think. For instance, he was a radar engineer, which i didn't even know existed. I also learned quite a bit about radars themselves.

I liked the speech because he shared some intersting facts and stories about some of his trips.

He ate sheep eyes and brain. The radio thing was kind of cool too

It was cool to learn about Mr. Wertz's job, travels, and how radar works. It was interesting to see his passion for radar systems.

I was absent on 9/10/09, due to illness. However I'm sure he was a great and influential speaker in the engineering field.
