Paper Box Follow Up

How did this project change your thinking about engineering?

On the second box, how was it beneficial to look at the other designs to improve your design?

Is this an assignment that should be included in the Intro to Engineering Classes in the future? Why/Why not?

This project showed the importance to engineering of testing and refining designs.

Looking at the designs of more successful boxes allowed me to see which kinds of designs consistently held the most weight.

This assignment should be included in future Intro to Engineering classes because it is a useful introduction to the thought process that goes into engineering.

This project shoed me how important it truly is to test your design before putting it out against competitors products. If you don’t the process is all messed up and it creates a better end product.

Our first box did not do as well as other boxes so it was beneficial to get to see which boxes did well and why they did well. It mostly came down to the simple design and the amount of glue. Our design was good but it was not strong and had very little glue making it crush under pressure.

I think this was a very good assignment because it thought me a lot about structures and how they work. This would be an important assignment for future classes.

It showed me how important certain parts play in creating a good box. Like if you had any parts not placed perfectly then your box would crush.

It didn't really help much because ours had already done good so there wasn't much improvement needed

Yes, this should be a assignment in the future for intro to engineering because it shows people what engineering is in a fun way.

This project changed my thinking about engineering by showing me the design process all engineers go through.

It was beneficial to look at the other disigns to improve our design by seeing the other ideas groups put into their box and learning how they are effective.

This assignment should be included in the Intro to Engineering class in the future because it gives us a good introduction project to how engineers have to construct and evaluate their previous projects.

This experience was magical kind of like Disney Land. From doing the two trials we learned that the cylinder structure was the strongest. Also that the spacing of the cylinders determined the strength, so the closer the cylinders were to each other the stronger the structure was. Yes, this assignment should definitely be included in the future.

This project didnt really change my viewpoint on engineering. It did show how an engineer can use trial and error to create "the best box." Our box held over 200 lbs each time though, but it was still a fun project and it showed how trial and error works.

This project showed us the reality of how engineering really is. It showed us that you dont always accomplish your goal and you have to work to produce something great. It also showed us how you can make a lot out of a little.

Looking at the designs after the first test helped with our design for the second test. It showed us structures that worked and didnt work. It also showed us where we made our mistakes and how we could fix them.

The assignment should be included in future intro to engineering classes because it shows the basics of structural design, how to work with other people, and how you can build extraordinary things from everyday objects.

This project changed our thinking of enginnering because it helped us learn how to solve a problem with limited resources and different designs.
Looking at other designs let us know which designs worked and which ones didn't so we knew how to design our second box in order for it to hold over 175 pounds.
Yes, but i'd say just have the people who didn't get over 175 the first time should have to while the groups that did help those make boxes that will hold the 175 weight.

This project showed me how different results can be even with similar designs and exemplified the importance of testing many times before puting a product out on the market.

We had more success the first time because we had a good design and so when we did it again we tried to do something compleltly different that hadn't been done in a previous design but ended up failing.

It should be included later, it is a great way to introduce the class and the work of engineers but perhpas the second box should just be a design.

Thir project showed that with engineering and design you can complete a task that may seem impossible.
The boxes showed which structures were the strongest when holding vertical weight and we used that knowledge to complete our second box.
This assignment should be used because it is a good introduction into getting your mind in the engineering way of thinking.

it taught us that some designs are better when it come to engineering
yes it should be included for future classes

This project changed my thinking about engineering in many ways. I now realize that you have to think about exactly what’s the most efficient way to create something. Also I realized that you have to think about what design will give you the best results with the restricted materials you have. It was beneficial to look at other designs to improve on your design because you could see what worked and didn’t work. You could also see what did the best job with the simplest outline. Also you were able to come up with what others thought worked best through discussion and viewing their boxes. Finally, this assignment should be included in an intro to engineering class for a few reasons. It gets your mind thinking in similar ways an engineer would to design or create a product. Also without thinking about it you force yourself to go through a process to create your project and discover what works best with trial and error.

The project changed our thinking by showing us part of the design process engineers use to design new products and it shows how important it is to plan your design

It was beneficial to look at other designs because it showed us what works best and gave us new ideas

This assignment showed be included in future classes because it shows us how the engineering process applies to real projects

The paper box project was good way to better understand the kinds of things engineering goes through. We learned that testing is an important part of engineering, and though not all fields have the ability to constantly test, a lot of time and effort must go into refining designs or projects. Engineering requires not just creativity but also precise calculations and tests. We believe this project should be included in future classes because it is fun and really shows the design process that goes into engineering.

The box project showed the importance of internal structure, and the infinite details and possibilities.

You can see what structures were able to hold the weight, and which designs were not able to.

Yes because it is a hands on way to learn about engineering and the problems that come up when solving a problem.
